Activities

At Camp Half-Blood, Camp Fandom, Harry Potter Camp and Demigod Institute, campers, counselors-in-training (ages 16-18), counselors (ages 18+), and faculty make friends and build community as they learn about literature, innovation, science, philosophy, and team-work; design and construct weapons, masks, costumes, and murals; create stories, dramas, and movies; train and learn the rules of engagement for capture-the-flag, theatrical combat, martial arts, and more while lodging in an idyllic rustic forest setting one half mile to the beach. Some of the fun that we  reveal is that Camp Demigod will have both in residence and visiting very innovative faculty, guest artists, scientists, authors and trained experts in theatrical swordsmanship and other tactical and strategic skills. All Camps also focus on innovation, mentorship and developing young leaders. Camp Demigod integrates DIGIVATIONS international NASA award winning STEM+ARTS+MOVEMENT curriculum featuring robots to rockets, and its Sphere of Influence Innovation programs where kids learn how artists, writers, scientists, engineers, technologists and others influence each other to be innovative and contribute positively to the world around them.  Here is glimpse from summer 2016.  The images to the right are from earlier summers.

STEM+ARTS+MOVEMENT
Camp Half-Blood and Harry Potter Campers are not encouraged to use technology until day 4 of the week.  Camp Fandom and Institute Campers have the opportunity to work with the Virtual Reality system (Microsoft VIVE) as a tool to explore world building.

With current and historical events as a backdrop, students learn about innovation ranging from the inventions of Ancient Greece to Science Fiction/Fantasy/Steampunk exploration setting the stage for learning 21st Century Themes. Students are introduced to mentors both in person and through SKYPE.  They meet professionals from the Arts, Film, Games, Drama, Science, & Technology through DIGIVATIONS interactive ImagineSTEM™ blog and weDIGIVATE™ eCommunity.   Rocketry, LEGO Robotics & Unity Game Design Engine original games become part of the theatre. Recreation time: bon fires, quests, beach time, and card/board games.

Students participate in a tight-knit and nurturing and respectful community where there is no wrong answer.

Our campers select the direction of their world building efforts and use the themes and story lines which live in the following stories:

MYTHOLOGY: including Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympian Series and the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit and its renditions by Director, Peter Jackson;

FANTASY: Harry Potter

SF/FANTASY (SPECULATIVE FICTION) and media series and movies incorporating STEAMPUNK (Leviathan and others), Avatar the Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, Dr. Who, Avatar, and Inception for its wonderful relationship of dreams, time and scripted spaces; and

DYSTOPIAN SOCIETIES (Hunger Games, Divergent, and others).

This curriculum and methodology contextualizes current and historical innovative events, science fiction and 21st Century themes (alternative energy (sustainability), design and engineering, commercial Space, earth & space extreme environments and eco-systems, smart infrastructure & transportation) with multidisciplinary study of the arts, economics, humanities, science, technology, engineering and math enabling students and educators to make sense of the world around them.
